About SIMULANT

SIMULANT add-in for EXCEL is a tool for discrete event simulation. First version of this program was created as a part of my thesis in 2009. This program allows easy creation of simulation models in graphics mode through user interface.

Main purpose of SIMULANT is provide user friendly way to create simulation models, run simulation, and display result report.

The purpose of SIMULANT not to compete with commercial simulation products. The possibilities of SIMULANT are very limited in comparison with commercial simulation products.

SIMULANT was created mainly for educational use, but  there no license restrictions on way of using the add-in. Users are allowed to use the add-in for any purposes including commercial, if the add-in is capable to handle the simulation.

Main features

  • Select model element and place them to the model by clicking on model background. Supported elements are Entries, Queues, Activities and Ends
  • Use connectors to connect the elements
  • Set routing rules, where elements has more successors.
  • Define your types of entities.
  • Use simple forms for setting properties of elements. Here are examples of settings. For intervals between entities arrival and the durations of activities there is a possibility to choose from several commonly used distributions of random variables, for determining the order in each queue there are available FIFO, LIFO and SIRO modes. It is possible to take in account priorities of entities and set maximal length of queue.
  • Define resources which can be required for performing activities.
  • Set duration of simulation
  • Watch simple animation displaying movements of entities.
  • Generate result reports
